Gall Bladder stones are actually solid particles formed from Cholesterol and Bile pigments. Broadly they can be divided into Cholesterol stones, Pigment stones and Mixed stones.
If stones slip to the nearby structures, it causes complications like-Obstructive jaundice, Pancreatitis etc. Moreover, Gall bladder stones are considered to be one of the main causative factor for Gall bladder cancer.
Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (Gall bladder removal) is the treatment of choice for symptomatic gall bladder stones. Generally, four small holes are made on the abdominal wall for this operation. The blood vessel supplying gall bladder and the duct of gall bladder (Cystic duct) are clipped and Gall bladder is removed. In comparison to open surgery, laparoscopic surgery is known to result in early recovery and early return to normal life.
