Choledocholithiasis or stones in common bile duct(CBD) is a well-known complications of Gall bladder stones. They present with characteristics of jaundice (Yellow discoloration of your eyes and urine) along with pain in right upper abdomen. They are commonly treated by endoscopic means(ERCP).
There are certain situations when this endoscopic method fails in extracting the stones. In those cases, CBD can be opened laparoscopically and stones are removed. But such surgeries are advanced procedures and should only be performed by experienced laparoscopic surgeons who are well versed with such procedures. The laparoscopic common bile duct exploration is a potential option for managing stones within the biliary tree at the same time as laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
